Update 22nd August 2021

CAPTAIN'S PRIZE - Jonathan Egan’s Captain’s Prize to the men was held on Sunday the 15th of August with a very strong field taking part despite clashing with the Roscommon under 20s game in Dublin. The events of the weekend commenced with a very successful and social Captain’s Scramble on Friday evening with presentation afterwards. The winner of the men’s Captain's Prize for 2021 was Jason Beirne who was the joint leader (with 5 others) with a nett 65 going into the 9 hole playoff. It was an extremely tight finish with Jason just edging Lorcan Egan into second place by half a shot. The presentation of prizes was held immediately after the playoff. Jonathan Egan congratulated all the winners and thanked several members who had contributed to the very successful year the club has been having on all fronts.

The club ran a small fundraiser connected with predicting the winner of the Captain’s Prize and have since donated the proceeds of 200 euro to the “Cycle for Sandra”, the Hospice fundraiser that commemorates our much missed former Lady Captain, the late Sandra McCrann.

Martin Wynne and Conor Hamill won very early in Boyle on the 15th. Lee McKillen and Lochlainn Conboy continued their unbeaten run in their first interclub season winning on the 15th away in Carrick On Shannon. Lorcan Egan and Padraig O’Connell were 3 down after 9 holes in Boyle but clawed their way back hole by hole and won their match with Padraig’s last putt on the 18th, thereby clinching the overall win for Boyle. The 2 remaining matches in Carrick, which were the pairings of Brendan Gaffney and David Gallagher and Jim Suffin and team captain Sean Heslin were called in at this point, but could well have provided another win or 2. This team are proving themselves to be a force to be reckoned with consecutive victories over Rosses Point and Carrick On Shannon. Best of luck in Round 3 to all.

Update 5th July

PRESIDENTS PRIZE - Men's President Padraic O’Connell's prize will be held next  Sunday the 11th of July. We hope that Padraic has better luck weather-wise with his President’s than his Captain’s Prize when play had to be abandoned due to torrential rain and postponed to the following Sunday. Hopefully lightning doesn’t strike twice (literally).

The competition will be in the time-honoured format of an 18 hole Stroke followed by a 9 hole playoff.

The current Covid restrictions mean that there will be some differences from our usual Presidents Day. There will be no food on the day, alcohol can be consumed outside only. It is hoped to hold the presentation outside on the putting green if weather permits, if not, it will be deferred to the following Sunday.

FIXTURES - Sunday the 18th of July is the date for this year's Bart Moran Cup for the men and the Niamh Nangle Cup for the women.

Sunday the 4th of July played host to the PGA Tankard. The playing conditions deteriorated as the day progressed, so players in the afternoon were always going to be up against it to beat early riser Tommy King’s 44 points. 2nd place went to Marc O’Connor, Gross Brendan Gaffney, 3rd was Gabriel Lavin.

INTERCLUBS - Best of luck in this week's interclub matches to John McGuinn’s All Ireland Fourball team and Liam Whyte’s Pierce Purcell team.
