Update 29th June

Last Sunday’s 18 Hole stableford was won by Michael Bannon 39pts, 2nd John McGuinn 38pts, Gross Patrick Egan, 3rd Cillian Doyle 38pts. Thursday night’s Mens Competition was won by Shane O’Dowd 31pts, 2nd Vincent Egan 26pts, 3rd Ross Andrew 25pts. Friday’s Scramble was won by Patrick Conroy, Criona O’Donnell & Tom Kearney, 2nd Cillian Doyle, Susan O’Mahoney & Marie Gallagher. Congrats to Jonathan Egan & Seamus Gallagher who won the foursomes final last Wednesday. Commiserations to beaten finalists Charlie O’Donnell & Ted Hestor.

In Inter Club news good luck to our Cecil Ewing Team who play Rosses Point this coming Friday.

The club sends best wishes to Sandra McCrann for her Lady Captains Prize next Sunday July 5thand to all the ladies taking part. A presentation Dinner will take place on Sunday evening. Lady Captains Prize for the Men also takes place next Sunday with tee-off times available from 2.00pm. The Lady Captains Scramble is on Friday evening, draw at 6.30pm. The Mens 12 hole is on Thursday.

Open week commences on Monday July 6th will be a Ladies and Gents nine hole. Tuesday is Ladies Day, format 18 hole stableford. A full programme is available on the noticeboard or at www.boylegolfclub.com  Please encourage friends and colleagues from the club or other clubs to take part. Food will be available each day.

The winner of the June draw was Peggy Feely €70, runner up were Jimmy/Pauline Doyle and Ted Hestor €40 each. Thanks to all who took part and good luck in the July draw. Junior Golf continues on Saturday mornings at 11.00am for Boys and Girls.

Volunteering takes place on this Monday evening to repair divots and on Saturday July 4th for a general tidy up in advance of Lady Captains Day and Open Week. All support appreciated.

The club extends sympathy to Gerry Nerney and all the Nerney Family on the death of John Joe Nerney. John Joe is best known as an All-Ireland Football Medal Winner but was also a great ambassador for the town and county. May he rest in Peace.


And finally for those interested in trivia…….next week is the 2nd anniversary of the arrival of Ted Hestor’s buggy on the course. It has covered many miles since (at speed). Might be an idea to have a buggy race during open week between Vincent and Ted J

Update 22nd June

There was a large turnout for Charlie O’Donnell’s Presidents Prize last Sunday with Martin Wynne winning his first “Major” with a score of 95.5. At the presentation Club President Charlie O’Donnell thanked everybody who took part and said it was a great honour to serve as President. He thanked all those who had played or helped in any way to make the day a success and congratulated the winner Martin Wynne and all the prize-winners. He thanked the Course Committee and the Grounds man Charlie Beirne for the great condition of the course and specially thanked Michael Rush for his great work. He thanked Mary for the excellent food, Liz and Michael Rush for their help organising the day and Jessica Rush for looking after the presentation boards  The winner Martin Wynne, in response, said he was delighted to finally win a major and thanked Charlie for a great days golf. He thanked all involved in the running of the club with special mention for all those who look after the course. He thanked his playing partners Terry Canning, Ross Andrew, Sean McLoughlin & Patrick Egan. He thanked Mary for her excellent food and finished by thanking the “press” and Jessica for taking photos.

The final of the foursome’s competition takes place on this Wednesday between Jonathan Egan/ Seamus Gallagher and Charlie O’Donnell/Ted Hestor

Competitions this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday. Friday will be a nine hole scramble. Next Sunday is an 18 hole at a reduced rate of €5.00. Open week commences on Monday July 6th will be a Ladies and Gents nine hole and Ladies Day is on Tuesday 8th. A full programme is on the noticeboard and on the website. Update 15th June

Last Sunday's Barty Moran Trophy was won by James Shivnan with a 62 nett, 2nd Michael Reid (63), Gross Patrick Egan (72), 3rd Jonathan Egan (63).

Thursday night’s Mens Competition was won by Liam Whyte 31pts, 2nd Vincent Egan 27pts, Ross Andrew 26pts. Friday’s Scramble was won by Brendan Gaffney, Moira Egan & Marie Gallagher, 2nd Claire Cryan, Criona O’Donnell & Michael Gilmartin.

In Inter Club news commiserations to our Jimmy Bruen, Mixed Foursomes and Pierce Purcell teams who were beaten by Strandhill and Ballina and Enniscrone respectively.

Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday night, Next Sunday is the Presidents Prize. We send good wishes to Charlie O’Donnell and good luck to all taking part. Format is 18 Hole Stroke with a final nine holes in the evening. Booking is available on line. The course will be closed from 6.00 on Saturday evening to prepare the course. The Presidents Scramble will take place on Friday evening, draw at 6.30 for tee off at 6.45

Fridays Scramble was won by Brendan Gaffney, Criona O’Donnell & Cillian Doyle, 2nd Michael Simon, Fiona Keenan & Pat Conroy, 3rd Michael Reid, Carmel Keenan & Seamus Gallagher.

The Horse and Summer Show Classic held last weekend was won by Liam Whyte, Lorcan Egan, Jonathan Egan & Vincent Egan 99pts, 2nd Michael Simon, Michael Rush, Seamus Gallagher & Michael Bannon 93pts, 3rd Charlie O’Donnell, Ross Andrew, Willie Tiernan & Michael Gilmartin 91pts. Ladies Winners were Attracta Keville, Regina McLoughlin, Marie Hanmore-Cawley & Ann King (Strokestown). Winner of the Putting Competition was John McGuinn (17). Thanks to Aileen, Teresa and the Horse & Summer Show Committee and thanks to all who took part. Presentation of prizes will take place later in the month.

Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday night, Friday is a nine hole scramble and next Sunday is the Bartley Moran Trophy. Format is 18 Hole Stroke and the competition is a golfer of the year. Date for your diary is Charlie O’Donnell’s President Prize on Sunday June 21st. For anyone needing to get cards for the Presidents Prize, next Sunday is a qualifier.

In Inter club news Commiserations to our seniors who lost to Strokestown last Thursday. Good luck to our Jimmy Bruen Team playing Strandhill on Monday, our Mixed Foursomes playing Ballina on Wednesday and our Pierce Purcell Team playing Rosses Point on Saturday 

Second round of the King Harman has commenced. All matches to be played by Saturday 27th June.

In Ladies news well done to Liz Dwyer who won the Niamh Nangle Cup on Sunday and to Michelle Quinn who came 2nd.  At the presentation Paddy Nangle thanked all the players for taking part and complimented the ground staff on the great condition of the course. Lady Captain Sandra McCrann thanked the Nangle Family for putting up the cup and thanked the Ladies for turning out in such great numbers.

Update 1st June

Inaugural Committee Cup
Well done to Charlie O’Donnell who won the inaugural Committee Cup in an exciting finish on Sunday evening. Charlie took a one point lead into the final round and narrowly pipped Lewis Shaw and Gary Carty by half a shot. Well done to Peggy Feely who was the overall Ladies winner. At the presentation Mens Captain Michael Rush thanked Lady Captain Sandra McCrann and all who had taken part or helped in any way to make the competition a success. He thanked the Course Committee; the Grounds man Charlie Beirne and all the volunteers for the great condition of the course. He thanked Mary for the excellent food and Vincent and Patrick for looking after the Bar. He also thanked Moira and Sandra for helping to prepare the prize tables. The winner Charlie O’Donnell said he was delighted to win and commended the club on the new competition. He thanked his playing partners on the day and thanked everyone for their good wishes. Peggy Feely thanked the Club for organising the competition and said she was delighted to win. She complimented the greens committee on the great condition of the course and thanked Charlie and all the volunteers.

Special well done to Gary Carty who had an “Albatross” on the 5th. According to club members this is thought to be the first Albatross on the course and therefore a historic achievement.

The Nurture Africa draw took place Sunday evening. Karen Carty thanked club members for their support. Susan O’Mahoney, Brendan Gaffney and Mary McDermott were among the prize winners.

Tee times can be booked on line or by calling 086 8645797 or 086 2039182. Funds raised will go towards the Horse and Summer Show to take place in August. All support appreciated
