Update 25th November


COMPETITIONS -The fourth of the series of Winter League 18 hole Stableford took place on Sunday the 24th of November. 
This weeks winner was incoming captain Lorcan Egan with a very strong 42 points. Gerry Carty and Sean Heslin were 2nd and 3rd with 38 and 37 points respectively, and Charlie O’Donnell had the best gross score.
Next Sunday the 1st of December sees the final week of the Winter League. There are a number of golfers in the shake-up for the title, but there will also be separate prizes for the day itself.
Sunday the 8th of December is the date for this year's “Bonanza” competition, one of the highlights of the club’s Christmas season. The competition is for ladies and gents, played as an 18 hole Stableford, with prizes for all who take part. For anyone who hasn’t had the privilege this year of walking up to accept a prize from the table, this will be about as good as it gets for 2019! It is usually a very social occasion and gives members a chance to show support for the incoming captains. All members welcome.

MANAGEMENT AGM -The overall club AGM, the “management AGM”, will take place on Sunday the 1st of December in the clubhouse at 5pm. Members are welcome to put motions forward for the AGM, proposal slips are available below the main noticeboard in the front hall. Motions must be available for viewing on the noticeboard for at least up 14 days prior to the AGM.

Update 17th November


KING HARMON CUP - The last matches in the King Harmon Cup took place in quick succession this week, with Sean Heslin beating Michael McHale in the second semi-final, progressing to the final later in the week versus Padraig O’Connell. Sean might have been considered the favourite going into the final, having a number of majors under his belt over the years as well as being known as one of the most consistent scorers in the club. However it was not to be, and Padraig capitalised on a recent great run of form to capture his most significant title to date, 2019 winner of the club’s matchplay trophy, the King Harmon Perpetual Cup, which has been competed for within the club since the 1930s. Well done Poc.

LADIES AGM - The Ladies AGM took place on Sunday the 10th of November, chaired by the 2019 captain, Regina McLoughlin. The following committee was elected for 2020 - Captain - Therese O’Daly, President - Mandy Toolan, Secretary - Regina McLoughlin, Treasurer- Fiona Keenan, Handicap Secretary - Susan O’Mahoney, Competition Secretary - Mary O’Hara . Committee members - Geraldine McDermottroe, Eithne Gaffney, Críona O’Donnell, Liz Dwyer.
The club extends its thanks to Regina McLoughlin for her service to the club during 2019, and congratulates Therese O’Daly on becoming the 2020 Lady Captain.

RESULTS - The third of the series of Winter League 18 hole Stableford took place on Sunday the 17th of November. 
The top spots went to Padraig O’Connell,Owen Garvin and Liam Mullaney respectively, with Lorcan Egan winning the gross. 
The Winter League continues over the next 2 Sundays.

Update 11th November


KING HARMON CUP - Padraic O’Connell continued his good run of form in this years King Harmon Cup ; having been the first man through to the semi-finals, he is now the first man in the final, overcoming Gerry Carty in their match. The second semi-final of Sean Heslin versus Michael McHale takes place this coming week.

RESULTS - The first of the series of Winter League 18 hole Stableford took place on Sunday the 3rd of November. Liam Mullaney claimed top spot with 38 points on countback ahead of Lorcan Egan and Sean Heslin who took 2nd place and best gross respectively, with Tommy King coming 3rd.
The second round was played the following Sunday, the 10th. In first place was Gary Carty with 38 points, his gross score being a remarkable 4 over par in some extremely cold and windy conditions. Paul Connolly came 2nd , Padraic O’Connell 3rd, and Michael Simon had the best gross. The Winter League continues over the next 3 Sunday’s with prizes for each day as well as for the league title itself.

CONDOLENCES - The club expresses their sincere condolences to the Perry family on their recent bereavement.

MENS’ AGM - The mens AGM took place on Sunday the 10th of November, chaired by 2019 men’s captain, Seamus Gallagher. The following committee was elected for 2020 - Captain- Lorcan Egan, President - Padraic O’Connell, Secretary - Brendan Gaffney, Treasurer- Liam Mullaney, Handicap Secretary - Michael Rush, Competition Secretary - Lorcan Egan, PRO - Jonathan Egan, Committee Members - Vincent Egan, Willie Tiernan, Paul Connolly, Michael Simon, Jim Mooney, Pat Conroy.
The committee extends its thanks to Seamus Gallagher for his service to the club during 2019, and congratulates Lorcan Egan, who will be the youngest men’s captain in at least the past 20 years.

Update 4th November


KING HARMON CUP -
Padraic O’Connell was the first man through to the King-Harmon semi-finals having beaten David Wynne during the week. The other semi-finalists are Gerry Carty, Michael McHale and Sean Heslin who respectively edged out Lorcan Egan, Liam Mullaney and Brendan Gaffney.


PADDY DALY -
Paddy Daly had a decades long association with Boyle Golf Club, taking up golf not long after his move to Boyle as a young man and still managing to play regularly into his 80s. Paddy served as captain in 1972, which was a very significant year for the club as its course had been on rented land in Warren for many years and the move to the club’s own course in Knockadoobrusna took place during Paddy’s year as captain. He continued to contribute in several capacities after this, including as club president in 1987, as a frequent sponsor of competitions and also as a player on several interclub teams. The club extends its sincere sympathies to the Daly family on Paddy’s passing.


RESULTS -
The Bank Holiday weekend competition was a Fourball Shambles for the Drumderrig Cup. The winning team members were Charlie O’Donnell, Ross Andrew, Tommy King and Seamus Gallagher with 96pts. The runners-up ( who did extremely well considering they were a man short) were the team of Lochlainn Conboy, Cillian Conboy, Conor Hamill with 93 points.


HANDICAPS -
The annual handicap review for the male members was completed in the past week, with all handicap letters on the clubhouse noticeboard. The adjusted handicaps came into effect from Sunday the 3rd of November.


AGMs -
The AGM of the mens’ club takes place this coming Sunday the 10th of November, with the ladies’ on the following Sunday (the 17th of November). The overall club AGM, the “management AGM” , will take place on Sunday the 1st of December. All the meetings take place in the clubhouse at 5pm on the relevant dates.
