Update 31st August

There was a great turnout last Sunday for Liz Dwyer’s Lady Presidents Prize with almost thirty ladies taking part. Congratulations to Regina McLoughlin who won with a score of 68 nett. At the presentation Lady President Liz Dwyer congratulated Regina and all the winners and thanked everyone who took part or helped to organise the day. She especially thanked Michael Rush, Charlie Beirne, John McGuinn & the course committee for the great condition of the course. She thanked Mary for the excellent food and Vincent and the house committee for looking after the bar for her help to prepare the room. Prize-winner Regina thanked Liz for the lovely prizes and for a great day.

The prize to the Men was won by with Niall Kearney 43 pts; 2nd Ross Andrew 39 pts; Gross Gary Carty 33pts; 3rd John McGuinn 38 pts. 

Thursday's Mens Competition was won by Michael Simon 24pts, 2nd Terry Bright 23pts, 3rd Gerry Carty 23pts. Well done to Niall Kearney who won the King Harmon Final on Saturday. Commiserations to beaten finalist Lionel Lynn and thanks to all who took part.

Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday; Friday is a nine hole scramble and next Sunday is The King Cup (GOY). Presentation of prizes for takes place next Sunday evening.

Fridays Lady President's Scramble was won Brendan Gaffney, Marie Gallagher & Dave Purser; 2nd Niall Kearney, Carmel Keenan & Moira Egan; 3rd Gary Carty, Geraldine McDermottroe & Lionel Lynn.

Thanks to all who took part in the golf lessons which concluded last Wednesday. Special thanks to Philip Murphy of Murphy Sweeney Golf School for providing the lessons and to Gary Carty for organising. It is hoped that the lessons will run again next year. For new players interested in joining, competitive 16 month membership packages are available, incorporating the remainder of 2015 and all of 2016. Pole forking of the greens will take place this week, weather permitting, if anyone can spare some time it will be much appreciated

The club outing to Portumna takes place on Saturday October 3rd, details on noticeboard. A meeting of the Mens, Ladies and Management Committees will take place this Wednesday evening in the clubhouse.

Finally, the club extend best wishes to our friend and fellow golfer James Shivnan following news of his illness. We wish you a speedy recovery James and look forward to seeing you back soon.

Update 23rd August

Last Sunday’s 18 hole was cancelled due to bad weather and will be re-arranged. Thursday night’s competition was won by Lorcan Egan 19pts, 2nd Charlie O’Donnell 18pts, 3rd Jonathan Egan 18pts
Fridays Scramble was won by Patrick Egan, Susan O’Mahoney, Paddy McLoughlin & Lewis Shaw, 2nd Brendan Gaffney, Gerry O’Hara & Peter Leydon, 3rd Michael Reid, Eithne Gaffney & Cillian Doyle.
Saturdays “Last Man Standing” was won by John McGuinn (20th), 2nd Cillian Doyle (19th), 3rd Cian Smith (19th. “Last Lady Standing was won by Sandra McCrann (17th), 2nd Moira Egan (17th).

Well done to Niall Kearney who won his King Harmon semi-final against Seamus Gallagher and is through to the final against Lionel Lynn.

Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday night; Friday will be the Lady Presidents Scramble & Barbeque, please put your name on the noticeboard. Sunday is Lady Presidents Day and we send best wishes to Liz Dwyer for a great day. The Lady Presidents Prize to the men also takes place on Sunday. Tee times are before 9.00am or after 2.30pm. Presentation of prizes will take place on Sunday evening.

Last weekends Captains Prize to the juniors were won by Ciara Rooney and Seth Meredith. Other prizewinners were Enda Carr, Niamh Brogan, Sean Brogan Niall O’Donnell, Lorcan Connolly, Maeve Brogan, Mathew Lawlor, Garett Mullen, Grainne Rooney, Brian O’Connor, Kevin Beirne, Thomas Guckian, Christopher Lavin, Shane Lavin, Daniel Casey At the presentation Sandra McCrann & Michael Rush thanked all the Juniors and parents who took part and thanked Brendan, Moira, Paddy and all who helped with the coaching on Saturday mornings. Ciara Rooney and Seth Meredith, on behalf of the prizewinners thanked all the coaches during the season and thanked Susan for arranging the competition. 

The club extends sympathy to Jack Fallon & Family on the passing of Connie Fallon RIP. May She Rest in Peace.

Update 17th August

Well done to Enda Smith who won last weekend's Fore Club Alliance competition sponsored by The Roscommon Herald with 39pts, 2nd Jim Mooney 37pts, 3rd Brendan Gaffney 36pts. Thursday's 12 hole competition was won by Seamus Gallagher with an excellent score of 31pts, 2nd Lionel Lynn 29pts, 3rd Jonathan Egan 28pts. Friday's Scramble was won by Charlie O'Donnell, Pat Conroy, Lewis Shaw & Susan O'Mahoney. 

Events for this week include the beginner's/improver's golf class on Wednesday at 6.30pm, a men's nine hole open stableford on Thursday, nine hole scramble on Friday evening, 'last man standing' on Saturday from 1pm onwards (see website for full details) & 18 Hole Stroke on Sunday (GOY). It is worth noting that Saturday's competition is great value at €10 which includes a meal. Sunday's Golfer of the Year is generously sponsored by Conor Dowling & Deirdre O'Reilly. The club sends its appreciation to them. It is quite close at the top of the GOY leaderboard with Charlie O'Donnell currently the man to catch. 

Our club outing has been fixed for Saturday October 3rd at Portumna Golf Club. The first tee-time will be at 10.30am. Please put your name on the club noticeboard if you wish to attend. 
In King Harmon news, Lionel Lynn has progressed to the final after defeating Willie Tiernan. He awaits the winner of the other semi final between Seamus Gallagher and Niall Kearney.

Well done to Lionel Lynn who won  Sunday’s 18 hole stableford with 41pts, 2nd Sean Heslin 38pts, Gross Michael Gilmartin, 3rd Gerry Carty 37pts. Thursday night’s Competition was won by Seamus Gallagher 22pts, 2nd Patrick Egan 21pts, 3rd Gerry Carty 20pts.  Fridays Scramble was won by Patrick Egan, Annette Bartlett, Lewis Shaw & Michael Gilmartin 2nd Michael Simon, Susan O’Mahoney & Lionel Lynn, 3rd Michael Rush, Gerry Carty & Pat Conroy.

Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday night, the Scramble on Friday. Next Saturday & Sunday is the Fore Club Alliance in Boyle. Format is 18 hole stableford.

Commiserations to our Connacht Shield Team who were beaten by Carrick-on-Shannon on Tuesday evening. The team was Gary & Gerry Carty, Brendan Gaffney & John McGuinn, Patrick Egan & Jim Mooney, Sean Heslin & Liam Whyte and Terry Canning & Lorcan Egan. Good luck to Carrick in the next round. This completes our inter club season with thanks to all the players and team managers who took part and we look forward to 2016.

Update 4th August

Golf News Monday August 3rd 2015

Well done to Brendan Gaffney who won the Captains Prize last Sunday with a score of 100 over 27 holes. In an exciting finish the win was secured when Willie Tiernan's final putt lipped the hole and a relieved Brendan won his first Captains Prize. At the presentation Captain Michael Rush thanked everyone who took part or helped in any way to make the day a success. He said it was a great honour to be Captain and thanked the members for their support. He thanked the groundsman Charlie and all the volunteers for the great condition of the course. He thanked all who work on committees and also thanked Mary and Vincent for looking after the food and the bar. He thanked Susan and Liz for the presentation table and flowers and finished by presenting a floral bouquet to his wife Ann and thanking his daughters, Nicole, Jessica, Sophie & Rachel and his brother Brian. In response Michael was thanked for his great Captaincy and for all his work for the club. A presentation was made to Michael on behalf of all the members.

The winner Brendan Gaffney said he was delighted and honoured to win the prize and thanked everyone for their good wishes. He thanked Michael Rush for a great day and paid tribute for all the work he does for the club. He thanked all the volunteers and members for making the Club special and reserved a special tribute for Pat Conroy for his great work as Handicap Secretary. He thanked all his playing partners on the day, Jim Mooney, Dave Purser, Lorcan Egan & Vincent Egan and finished by thanking Susan and his family for their support. Tish Perry who accepted the Captains prize to the Ladies on behalf of Carmel Garry said Carmel was thrilled to win and thanked Michael for the prize. Brendan Gaffney wins Captains Prize 2015


Congratulations to Brendan Gaffney who won Michael Rush’s Captains Prize at Boyle Golf Club yesterday. At the presentation Michael Rush said he was delighted for Brendan and paid tribute to the great work he does for the club. In accepting the prize Brendan said he was honoured to win and thanked Michael Rush for a great day and for his great Captaincy. He complimented all those involved in the running of the club and thanked his family, friends and club members for their good wishes.
