Update April 28th

SANDRA MC CRANN -
The feeling around the club this week is one of great sorrow, we have been left bereft by the loss of one of our finest members, Sandra McCrann. Sandra was a former committee member and Lady Captain of the club, and was the co-author of the book produced to commemorate Boyle Golf Club's centenary in 2011. She also gave of her time to the club in many other ways, including helping out with both events in the clubhouse and maintenance on the course. However, none of this quite touches on the most important thing Sandra brought to the club, which was Sandra herself. Her easy-going, selfless, inclusive and generous nature were what set Sandra apart - from small acts such as her welcome and support for new members of our club to such significant ones as acting as carer for loved ones who needed her help. Our deepest and most sincere sympathies to Tom, Brian, Jake, Niall, and also Meg, on their tragic loss.

FIXTURES -
The course was closed on Sunday the 28th of April as a mark of respect to Sandra, so the annual "Voucher" competition has been rescheduled for next Sunday, the 5th of May.

RESULTS -
The "Fourball Shambles" competition held over the Easter weekend was won by the team of Michael Reid, Michael Simon, Gerry Carty and Gerry O'Dowd with 117 points. In second place were Jim Mooney, Charlie O'Donnell, Ross Andrew and Terry Canning on 115 and third prize was claimed by the 114 points of Pat Conroy, Tom Kearney, Michael Rush and Michael Gilmartin.

INTERCLUBS -
It was a tough week for the Boyle men in interclub matches. First up on the Bank Holiday Monday was a match in the "Connacht 9 Hole Clubs " tournament versus Ballyhaunis. Despite Lorcan Egan claiming a fine singles win away in Ballyhaunis, the club had a narrow 4-3 defeat overall.

Next up was a match on Saturday in the "All Ireland Fourball" versus neighbours Carrick On Shannon. Mark Whelan and Shane Loftus pulled off the difficult task of an away foursomes win in their match in Carrick On Shannon but Boyle lost overall.
Our Seniors will undoubtedly be in the underdog role when they take on Co Sligo Golf Club this coming Wednesday, but they are a bunch well capable of causing an upset! Good luck to all participating in the match.

SEAN YOUNG R.I.P - Although the first sport that came to mind when Sean Young's name was mentioned was unquestionably Gaelic Football, he was also a golfer of considerable ability, having played off a single figure handicap for many decades in Boyle, winning both Captains and Presidents Prizes along the way.
