the Committee Cup

A new “Major”  will take place at Boyle Golf Club this coming weekend.  The new competition is titled, “The Committee Cup” and is the club’s third major adding to the existing Captains and Presidents prizes. The competition is open to Ladies and Gents and can be played Saturday or Sunday. Format is 18 hole stroke with a 9 hole playoff on Sunday evening for the top Ladies and Gents.

Prizes include overall winner, 1st, 2nd, Gross & 3rd for Ladies and Gents, and prizes for handicap categories and best 9 holes. Presentation of prizes will take place on Sunday evening.

The weekend will commence with a  nine hole scramble this evening (Friday). Draw takes places at 6.30 with tee off at 6.45

A raffle in aid of Karen Carty’s Nurture Africa project will take place over the weekend with a draw on Sunday evening. Karen is travelling to Uganda to work on projects to provide healthcare and education services to orphaned and vulnerable children. All support is appreciated.

Other upcoming events at the club are the Horse and Summer Show Classic on Saturday June 6th. This follows on from their successful classic in 2014.  Funds raised will go towards the popular Horse and Summer Show scheduled to take place in August. Open Week takes places from Monday July 6th to Sunday July 12th.

Update 25th May

Well done to Pat Conroy who won last Sundays 18 Hole with 40pts, 2nd Padraig O’Connell 39pts, Gross Brendan Gaffney, 3rd Tommy King 38pts. Thursday nights Mens Competition was won by Terry Canning 28pts, Michael Rush 25pts, 3rd Padraig O’Connell 25pts.

The inaugural Committee Cup for Ladies & Gents takes place next weekend. Format is an 18 hole stroke and players can play Saturday or Sunday. Tee times must be booked on line, maximum three ball. The top ladies and gents will play a final nine holes on Sunday evening.  The weekend will commence with a nine hole scramble on Friday evening, draw 6.30, tee off 6.45. Club Captains Sandra & Michael are hoping as many as possible can take part in the competitions and wish all members an enjoyable weekend. Players in the Committee Cup are asked to please note that practice for the competition is not allowed on the course on Saturday or Sunday.

Other Competitions during the week are the Mens Competition on Thursday, the Ladies Competition on Tuesday and a nine hole stableford on Bank Holiday Monday.

In King Harmon news players are reminded that all first round matches must be completed by Friday 29th May.

In Interclub news well done to our seniors who beat to Enniscrone last Thursday and our Pierce Purcell Team who beat Castledargan on Saturday. Good luck to our Jimmy Bruen Team who play Castledargan tomorrow and our Mixed Foursomes who play Strandhill on Wednesday.

The April and May draws took place last Sunday evening. April winners Padraig O’Connell €70, Ted Hestor & Mary McKeon €40, May winners Michael Simon €70, Carmel Conlon & Ted Hestor €40 each Thanks to all who took part.

Update 17th May



Well done to Jim Mooney who won last Sunday’s PGA Tankard with 41pts, 2nd Gary Carty 40pts, Gross Charlie O’Donnell, 3rd Ross Andrew 38pts. Charlie O’Donnell is the new leader in the Golfer of the Year Competition.

Thursday night’s Mens competition was won by Niall Kearney 26pts, 2nd Owen Garvin 26pts, 3rd John McGuinn 23pts. Fridays Scramble was won by Marie Gallagher, Jim Mooney, Michael Reid, & Michael Gilmartin, 2nd Niall Kearney, Criona O’Donnell & Paddy Nangle, 3rd Terry Canning, Michael Rush & Seamus Gallagher

Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday night, Friday is a nine hole scramble and next Sunday is an 18 Hole Stableford (Qualifier)

Format is 18 hole stroke and the top ladies and gents will play a final nine holes on Sunday evening. There is an 18 hole competition on Sunday 27th May for those who need to get cards in.

Presentation of prizes will take place next Sunday evening May 24th followed by Club Draw.

The Club Foursomes semi-final pairings are Jim Mooney/Cillian Doyle V Jonathan Egan/Seamus Gallagher & Charlie O’Donnell/Ted Hestor V Michael Reid & Michael Gilmartin, Good luck to all the teams taking part. King Harmon. 1st round matches are to be completed by May 30th.

Good luck to our seniors who play Enniscrone on Thursday and to our Pierce Purcell against Castledargan on Saturday.

There will a volunteers evening on this Wednesday at 6.00 to carry out a general tidy around the course. All support appreciated 

In Ladies news well done to Michelle Quinn who won the PGA Tankard last Tuesday. Ladies Competitions this week are a nine hole on this Saturday May 23rd, draw moved to 1.00pm. There will be a beginners competition depending on numbers. This Tuesday, May 19th is the Countess of Granard Foursomes. Arrange partners & opposites.

Results from last Sunday’s Holmpatrick Cup 1st Prize Charlie O’Donnell &Terry Canning, 2nd Prize Brendan Gaffney & Jonathan Egan, 3rd Prize John McGuinn & Pat Conroy. Thursday Mens Competition was won by Gerry O’Hara 26pts, 2nd Owen Garvan 26pts, 3rd Lorcan Egan 25pts. Fridays Scramble was won by Brendan Gaffney, Michael Reid, Mary Lombard & Michael Gilmartin.

Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday a nine hole scramble on Friday, and the PGA Tankard on Sunday. Booking available on line. Please note all 3rd round foursomes matches must be played by Saturday May 16th at the latest. Matches not played will be decided by toss of a coin. King Harmon 1st round matches to be played by May 30th.

A representative from the I.L.G.U will attend.  Commiserations to the ladies Miele team who were beaten last Thursday evening by ‘Ballyhaunis and to the Ladies Challenge Cup who were narrowly beaten by ‘Ballyhaunis on Saturday.

At the presentation Michael Rush thanked all who took played or supported the weekend. He thanked Golf Style for sponsoring prizes, Charlie & Willie for the great condition of the course, Mary for the lovely food and Vincent and all those who helped in the bar. Susan and Brendan were thanked for organising the Quiz on Friday night and for sponsoring the prizes. Padraig O’Connell, on behalf of the winners, said they were delighted to win and paid special tribute to Michael Rush for his great work on the course and for organising the competition. Pauline Lennon (Castledargan), on behalf of the winning ladies team, thanked the club for the great hospitality and said they were delighted to win and that they always enjoy their trips to Boyle. 

Thursday’s Mens competition was won by Gerry Carty 27pts, 2nd Gary Carty 27pts, 3rd Ross Andrew 26pts.  Fridays scramble was won by Charlie O’Donnell, Carmel Keenan & Michael Rush, (courtesy of an eagle on the 8th),  2nd Marie Kennedy, John Compton & Kathleen Hanmore.  A special well done to Kathleen and Marie who were prize-winners in their first scramble (a sign of things to come), 3rd Sean Heslin, Regina McLoughlin & Eamon Perry.

Friday night’s Quiz was won by the Egan family of Moira, Vincent,  Lorcan and Paddy (parachuted in from Oughterard), 2nd Kathleen Hanmore, Marie Kennedy, John Compton (Strokestown) and Gary Carty. Special thanks to Susan and Brendan for organising and sponsoring prizes, to Mary for the lovely food, to Vincent and Gary for looking after the Bar and to Frank O’Mahoney for his sponsorship.  Thanks also to Strokestown Golf Club for their support and members are asked to support the Strokestown Golf Club Quiz next Friday evening in their clubhouse.

Competitions for this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday, Friday is a nine hole Scramble. and  next Sunday is the Holmpatrick Cup. Format is fourball betterball. Please check noticeboard for details of Foursomes and King Harmon matches.
