Update 23rd February


CAPTAINS DRIVE-IN  - The going was certainly soft but with fine conditions overhead, the traditional start to the holding year, the Captains Drive-In, went ahead as planned on Sunday the 23rd of February. Captains Lorcan Egan and Therese O’Daly were delighted with both the weather and the turnout. As it happened, both captains were on the team that won the Drive-In Scramble, accompanied by Liam Whyte. In second place was the team of Vincent Egan, Jason Beirne and Liam Mullaney.

FIXTURES - Course conditions permitting, next Sunday’s competition will be round 2 of the Spring League.

MONTHLY DRAW WINNERS - January -1st Liam Mullaney, 3nd Margaret Egan, 3rd Michael Simon. February - 1st Margaret Egan, 2nd Mandy Toolan, 3rdPaddy Nangle. Prizes -1st place gets 70 euro, 2nd and 3rd get 40 euro each. Thanks to everyone who supports our monthly draw.

Update 17th February


CAPTAINS DRIVE-IN
 The big event in the club calendar for February is the Captain’s and Lady Captain’s "Drive-In" next Sunday the 23rd of February when captains Lorcan Egan and Therese O’Daly will get Boyle's golfing year off to its official start. We ask all members to come along to this most social of occasions and show support for your captains for 2020. The format of the competition itself on the day will be a 9 hole scramble for ladies and gents, a draw for teams will be made on the day, no need for prior arrangements.
Please have your name in for the draw at 12.30, for a 1 pm shotgun start.

All members are encouraged to join the monthly draw whose proceeds go towards the upkeep of the club, cost 10 euros per month. Bank details as follows - Bank of Ireland, Main St, Boyle.

Update 3rd february

RESULTS - The first round of this year's Spring League took place on Sunday the 2nd of February. Lee McKillen set down a marker for the year with a great 42 points in challenging conditions. Owen Garvin was a close runner-up with 40 points. The top 5 places each week go through to the final. Accompanying Lee and Owen from this round will be Gerry Carty, Tom Kearney, and Sean Heslin. There are still 10 more places up for grabs over the next 2 weeks with the finals taking place on Sunday the 1st of March.
The Fourball Betterball deferred from the 19th of January was played the following Sunday, the 26th, and was won by the duo of Tommy King and Paul Connolly, their 43 points beating that of Padraig O’Connell and Gerry Carty on countback. John McGuinn made his return to the prizewinners arena with himself and playing partner Vincent Egan taking 3rd place with 42 points.

MEMBERSHIP - The Committee would be grateful if all members could make an effort to pay their subs early in the year as it makes planning the year's activities much more straightforward. Reminder letters have gone out to existing members.  For anyone else looking to join/rejoin, some of the main rates are as follows ( a fuller list is available on the club website, boylegolfclub.com) Junior - 60 euro, 1st-year adult beginner - 170, Student -145, Under 30 - 275, Distant -185, Full Single 395, Senior Single (65+) 295, Family 660.

Update 19th January


RESULTS from the 9 hole competition played on Sunday the 12th of January were as follows :
1st Lochlainn Conboy 24 points, 2nd Ross Andrew 21, 3rd Sean Heslin 20.
The Fourball Betterball scheduled for Sunday the 19th could not take place as scheduled due to frozen greens and has been deferred.

Update 6th January


RESULTS - A 9 hole re-entry competition was played throughout the first week of the New Year, the winners were as follows - 1st Sean Heslin, 2nd Michael Bannon, 3rd Liam Mullaney.

Sunday the 5th of January saw the first 18 hole competition of the year take place. today. Michael Simon came first, getting 2020 off to a good start, David Wynne was the runner-up. Sean Heslin completed a good week by taking the prize for best gross score and Paul Connolly came 3rd.

Update 23rd December

BONANZA- The Christmas Bonanza competition finally took place at the third time of asking on Sunday the 22nd of December. The weather conditions on the day were perfect, but the course itself presented a challenge due to the amount of rain that fell in the past few weeks. Liam Mullaney made light work of the heavy ground with a fine score of 26 points, laying claim to this years hamper for the overall winner. The winners were as follows- 1st Liam Mullaney 26, 2nd Sean Heslin 26, Best Gross Charlie O’Donnell 25, 3rd Tish Perry 25. Birdie Tree Charlie O’Donnell.
The prizes were given out in a presentation after the competition in the clubhouse by new men's Captain Lorcan Egan.
Padraig O’Connell was also presented with the King Harmon Cup after his final win a few weeks ago. Lorcan Egan received his prize for having come first in this year's Winter League, and the team of Charlie O’Donnell, Ross Andrew, Seamus Gallagher, and Tommy King were presented with the Drumderrig Cup.

FIXTURES - The other fixture in the club’s Christmas schedule is the annual Christmas Scramble, which takes place on the 27th of December, names to be entered in the draw at 12, with a “shotgun start” at 12.30. All members and golfing visitors are welcome and encouraged to attend, especially those in need of some fresh air after Stephens’ night.

Update 2nd December


COMPETITIONS -The fifth of the series of Winter League 18 hole Stablefords took place on Sunday the 1st of December. 
This weeks winner was Gerry Carty with 40 points, 2nd and 3rd were Sean Heslin and Liam Mullaney with 37 and 34 points respectively and Lorcan Egan had the best gross score.

Next Sunday the 8th of December is the date for this year's “Bonanza” competition, one of the highlights of the club’s Christmas season. The competition is for ladies and gents, played as an 18 hole Stableford, with prizes for all who take part. For anyone who hasn’t had the privilege this year of walking up to accept a prize from the table, this will be about as good as it gets for 2019! It is usually a very social occasion and gives members a chance to show support for the incoming captains. All members welcome.

MANAGEMENT AGM -The overall club AGM, the “management AGM”, took place on Sunday the 1st of December . The following were elected to the club’s management committee for 2020 - Chairperson (and mens’ Captain) Lorcan Egan, Lady Captain Therese O’Daly, Ladies Competition Secretary Mary O’Hara, Secretary Brendan Gaffney, Greens Convenor Willie Tiernan, House Convenor Vincent Egan, Children’s Liaison Officer Jim Mooney, Committee Members - Susan O’Mahoney, Liam Mullaney, Mandy Toolan and Jonathan Egan.
