The 12 hole competition played on Thursday the 2nd of May was won by Patrick Egan with 27 points, with Vincent Egan taking second place with 24 points.

FIXTURES - The Crumlin Classic had been due to be played over the May Bank Holiday weekend but has been rescheduled now for the  June Bank Holiday weekend.
Next weekend , the 11th and 12th of May, sees one of the club's big competitions of the year, the Committee Cup. The course is closed on the Saturday to the men as the ladies round of the competition takes place that day, with the reverse arrangements pertaining on the Sunday. The best scores will duel it out in a 9 hole playoff on Sunday evening with the presentation of the cup directly afterwards. Both men and women are eligible to win the main prize, the Committee Cup itself.
The big competitions come up thick and fast at this time of the year with following Sunday ( the 19th) seeing the hosting of the PGA tankard, with the winner getting to play with a professional golfer in a Pro-am competition later in the summer.

INTERCLUBS - Our Mixed Foursomes team under the joint captaincies of Charlie O'Donnell and Tish Perry play a match this Wednesday the 8th of May against Ballaghaderreen Golf Club. We wish them the best of luck.

COURSE WORK- The annual pole-forking of the greens takes place on Tuesday the 14th of May. This does lead to some inconvenience as regards playing conditions on the course for a week or 2 afterwards but is absolutely vital to maintain the greens in good condition for the year.

Update April 28th

SANDRA MC CRANN -
The feeling around the club this week is one of great sorrow, we have been left bereft by the loss of one of our finest members, Sandra McCrann. Sandra was a former committee member and Lady Captain of the club, and was the co-author of the book produced to commemorate Boyle Golf Club's centenary in 2011. She also gave of her time to the club in many other ways, including helping out with both events in the clubhouse and maintenance on the course. However, none of this quite touches on the most important thing Sandra brought to the club, which was Sandra herself. Her easy-going, selfless, inclusive and generous nature were what set Sandra apart - from small acts such as her welcome and support for new members of our club to such significant ones as acting as carer for loved ones who needed her help. Our deepest and most sincere sympathies to Tom, Brian, Jake, Niall, and also Meg, on their tragic loss.

FIXTURES -
The course was closed on Sunday the 28th of April as a mark of respect to Sandra, so the annual "Voucher" competition has been rescheduled for next Sunday, the 5th of May.

RESULTS -
The "Fourball Shambles" competition held over the Easter weekend was won by the team of Michael Reid, Michael Simon, Gerry Carty and Gerry O'Dowd with 117 points. In second place were Jim Mooney, Charlie O'Donnell, Ross Andrew and Terry Canning on 115 and third prize was claimed by the 114 points of Pat Conroy, Tom Kearney, Michael Rush and Michael Gilmartin.

INTERCLUBS -
It was a tough week for the Boyle men in interclub matches. First up on the Bank Holiday Monday was a match in the "Connacht 9 Hole Clubs " tournament versus Ballyhaunis. Despite Lorcan Egan claiming a fine singles win away in Ballyhaunis, the club had a narrow 4-3 defeat overall.

Next up was a match on Saturday in the "All Ireland Fourball" versus neighbours Carrick On Shannon. Mark Whelan and Shane Loftus pulled off the difficult task of an away foursomes win in their match in Carrick On Shannon but Boyle lost overall.
Our Seniors will undoubtedly be in the underdog role when they take on Co Sligo Golf Club this coming Wednesday, but they are a bunch well capable of causing an upset! Good luck to all participating in the match.

SEAN YOUNG R.I.P - Although the first sport that came to mind when Sean Young's name was mentioned was unquestionably Gaelic Football, he was also a golfer of considerable ability, having played off a single figure handicap for many decades in Boyle, winning both Captains and Presidents Prizes along the way. He was a popular and valued member of our club and we wish to express our sincere condolences to the Young family on their bereavement.

"GET INTO GOLF" LADIES PROGRAMME - A Ladies' Beginner Golf Programme is starting on April 10th for 8 weeks, cost €50. This is a wonderful opportunity for any lady who would like to try golf, or return to it after a period away, to get a taste of what it's all about. It includes 4 lessons with a pro and opportunities to play and socialise with current members of the golf club. Equipment will be provided. Introduction evening on Wed April 3rd at 7pm. HARRY WYNNE - It was sad news for Boyle Golf Club when word came through of Harry Wynne's death. Harry had been an active playing member of the club for over half a century and had served the club faithfully in many roles including as Captain in 1985 and President in 1995. He had also featured on the "roll of honour" having won a Presidents Prize in 1986 and had captained and played on inter-club teams. Harry had two qualities which immediately struck people who met him ,which were his unfailing courtesy to others and his very definite sense of style. The Wynne family have contributed much to Boyle Golf Club over the years with Harry's late brother Tom succeeding him as Captain in 1986, and Harry's wife Marie having also served both as Lady Captain and Lady President. The club wishes to express our sincere condolences to all the Wynne family .

JAMES COOKE - James Cooke was the other thorough gentleman lost to us in recent weeks. James was also a past Captain of Boyle Golf Club (2010) and former inter-club player. He was heavily involved in committee work during his years as a member, where his personal qualities of being hard-working , soft spoken, and level headed were held in the highest regard. James was a family man and as such was fortunate that his sons shared his interest in the game and a Sunday morning fourball of Cookes became a regular sight at the club. We know that James missed involvement with the club in recent years and we were saddened by news of his far too premature passing. We also wish to express our sympathies to the Cooke family at this difficult time.

An 18 hole Stableford is scheduled for the men on Sunday the 17th of March, St Patrick's Day. The following Sunday sees the Boyle round of the Holmpatrick Cup, played in fourball betterball format. The competition is in existence since 1932.
